Converting with Free McBoot   (Images will be added later)

First, a list of the things you will need:

  • PS2 Memory card preloaded with Free McBoot

  • USB stick (must be FAT32 format, NTSC will not work, nor will FAT, has to be FAT32)

  • PS2 Memory Card Adapter

  • PS2 (no special mods, other than the memory card)

  • PS1 Memory Card with enough blocks free

  • PS3

  • PSXGameEdit (check the programs page, I should have this listed)

  • PSX Raw Converter (this too should be under programs)

Ok, now lets get to it.  Make sure you unzip PSXGameEdit and PSX Raw Converter into easy to locate locations.  This way you can get to them quickly, without having to dig around and find them.

Open your memory card (MCR) in PSXGameEdit, and select the save you would like to convert.

Click 'File' then click 'Save Single Game Save' and save it with whatever name you want to an easy to locate folder. I generally make a folder beside the PSX Raw Converter folder named "Single Game Saves". That way I know exactly where to put, and find them.

Now, we have an MCS file.  What you need to do next is this. Open both the Single Game Saves folder and the PSX Raw Converter folders at the same time and line them up, side by side.

Drag your MCS file onto the file 'PSXRC.exe'. This will convert your save from an MCS file to a raw Playstation save file (meaning, its ready to be put on a memory card). Congratulations, your half way done! You've done the hardest part of the conversion process!

Now for the easy stuff. Plug in your USB stick, and drop your raw PSX save anywhere you want.

Now, power up the PS2 with the FreeMcBoot memory card inserted. Plug the USB stick in, and scroll down to "uLaunchELF", which should be the third item on the menu.

Now, press Circle to go into the file browser (this should be the default button, but may be different. Just read the menu). Every time you want to enter something, press Circle. Pressing Circle will go into folders. Go down to 'MASS:' and press Circle. This is your USB stick.

Move down to your PSX save file (Normally at this point, if you didn't rename it, it will start with a Sony serial number like SLUS, but not always). Press R1 (that's Right shoulder button one) to bring up a small content menu. Highlight 'Copy' and press Circle. Make sure you highlight the file you want to copy before bringing up the window!

Now, press Triangle, and you should be back at the main folder. Move up to mc0 or mc1 (this depends on which memory card slot your PSX memory card is in. mc0 is slot number one, or on the left. mc1 is slot 2, on the right). Press Circle to enter the folder.

Now, press R1 again, move down to 'Paste' and press Circle. Once this is done, back out with Triangle. You may not need to back out, but I do just to be on the safe side of things. That's it, your done with the PS2. You can power it off now. Start up your PS3 and get your adapter ready.

First, you will need to make a virtual memory card on the PS3. This is easy to do. Go HERE to learn how to make and assign cards on PS3.

Now, plug your Memory card adapter with the PSOne memory card inserted. You should see a new card icon appear at the top of the memory card list. Open it, and you should see your save.

Press Triangle to open a context menu, and select copy. Then select the memory card you just made, and the file should copy over to your PS3. You have converted your MCR file, to a PSV file!

Congrats, your done!
